The EU Directive on Whistleblowing

The EU Whistleblowing Directive applies to areas such as the fight against fraud, corruption, environmental protection and product safety. Provides protection for reporters from retaliation and discrimination by requiring organizations to establish secure internal reporting channels and member states to have external channels.

The identity of the reporter must remain confidential, and timely feedback on reports must be provided. Whistleblowers are legally protected, with rights to remedies and legal advice. Finally, organizations must promote awareness about whistleblowing, and there are penalties for breaches of confidentiality or obstacles to whistleblowing.
